FRIENDS OF JOHNSON CREEK

Did you know that a creek has been running beneath the Downtown neighbourhood for over 100 years? Called Johnson Creek by some, this hidden waterway once ran from a wetland in the area of View Street and Vancouver Street to where the Johnson Street Bridge currently sits. It was gradually buried as the city grew and now runs completely underground. Currently, efforts are being made to bring awareness to the watershed, most notably through the Invisible Water/Ways project.

The DRA is in the process of creating a Friends of Johnson Creek group, with the aim of educating the public about the creek and its watershed and working towards restoring it. To join the group's mailing list, click here.
