CALUC letter re Application for NEW Liquor Primary Licence - Sonora Bar & Grill

The DRA Land Use Committee has reviewed the application for a new Liquor Primary Licence for the operation listed above which was sent separately from the 23 August 2021 application for a Patron Participation Entertainment Endorsement. With the addition of the new application, this letter is offered as a revision of our letter of 22 September 2021.

The DRA LUC has substantial concerns regarding the potential approvals of a new Liquor Primary licence and Patron Participation Entertainment endorsement for an existing large capacity venue with an open-air patio (neither which offer any noise mitigation to neighbouring residences) in combination with the existing late-night operating hours. Their approvals would set the course for this location to operate as a nightclub with an open-air patio, either by the current owner, or a future operator, without any additional applications to the City, in an area that is already experiencing problems for the community and police.

As such, DRA LUC members do not support these applications as proposed.
