Letter to Mayor & Council - 1140 Government St-Bedford Regency–Application for Additional Patio Area

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

7 July 2022

Dear Mayor Helps and Council

The DRA Land Use Committee has reviewed the application for a new Liquor Primary Licence for the purpose of providing an additional and extended patio area. From the application, we understand:

  • Existing service hours are not proposed to be changed, 11am to 1am Monday through Saturday and 11am to 12pm on Sunday, and patio hours ending at 11pm nightly

  • A total occupant load of 168, which is not an increase from the current occupant load

We have not received any input from the wider public, however DRA LUC members did note that public space is being increasingly privatized through the addition and extension of restaurant patios. No site plans or justification letters are provided to the public for liquor licensing applications. This makes it difficult for the public and the DRA LUC to assess potential impacts. Even without a site plan, it is apparent that the entrance to Bastion Square is becoming increasingly constrained.

Sincerely,

Jordan Royer Co-Chair, Land Use Committee, Downtown Residents Association
